First Day of School recap

Well, yesterday was the first day of school for many children yesterday. The day is often filled with excitement, nerves, intrigue, and curiosity. We had all of those feelings yesterday morning while getting ready for Keonte and Cheyanne's first day of brick and mortar school EVER.

We carpool to school with friends of ours and Keonte and his friend are both in 6th grade at the same school and Cheyanne and her friend are different grades but go to the same school so it works out perfectly. Well, we were ready to go VERY early...

they could not sleep and were a bundle of nerves. We dropped the boys off first and they had butterflies but were very eager to get started. After dropping the boys off at the curb (not too close to the school, for coolness factor...lol) we headed to the elementary school for the girls. Cheyanne was very quiet, which those that know her know that is not her character. She was very nervous...but after walking into the classroom the boy that sits next to her she knows from Sunday school and he started talking to her to make her feel better. I left to put money on her lunch account and snuck back to peek in on her. She was sitting and talking with her desk neighbor so I felt good about that.

While the kids were in school, I set up some decorations and made cupcakes in the school colors so they could celebrate the first day of school. When we went to go pick them up (girls first) Cheyanne was in the hallway and when I asked how her day went she jumped in the air and pumped her fist, "IT WAS AWESOME!" ...lol...she had a good day. She did say she did not really get to eat lunch because by the time she got her tray and sat down the bell rang...they only allow 20 minutes for lunch (not sure how I feel about that yet). I am hoping the lunch schedule will straighten out after the first week or two.

On to the boys, there is a Sonic's across from the school and the family we carpool with purchased a gift card for the boys so they could walk across and get a refreshment after school. (That was so cool and deeply appreciated!) So that is where we picked them up from (also for cool factor...lol). They had the biggest grins on their faces. They had a great first day also.

Keonte had fun in all of his classes and so far likes all of his teachers. His math teacher is true to her word from orientation. She let us know that she assigns homework EVERDAY but Friday (weekends are family time, her words, I Love it!). He had homework but finished it before school even ended! So proud. We did have to rewrite it for neatness factor but he had it all done.

So now after dropping them off for their 2nd day I am sitting here blogging and praying that they have another great day. I am getting ready to sew Cheyanne her seat pillow for class and get dinner going in the crock pot. The rest of the day is up in the air...I will just do whatever I feel like doing today until it is time to pick up my kiddos!

Love to you all and hope all the kids enjoy their day, whether in school or not!

  1. Mackenzie also had only 20 minutes to eat. We found it easier to pack lunches for her. That way she was able to eat at least some of her lunch:-) Of course, she rarely stops talking at home long enough to eat. I can only imagine her chatter at the lunch table!

  2. Yes, I am thinking we will be packing more than not. They both just wanted to do the "school lunch thing the first week" and since we currently qualify for reduced lunch. It helps a lot with cost. Starting next week we will be packing lunches mainly for health and timeliness.
