Motivation

"The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible." Arthur C. Clarke I have a habit of making it to the 2 month mark and tapering off on working out. I am determined to get through this habit of quitting after 2 months. Unfortunately, there has been a coincidentally timed snag and my walking buddy will be moving away. This normally would have discouraged me and I would have just said well I have no one to walk with so forget it.  I am bummed but I am not letting this be a reason to quit.  I still have some organizing to do from the move but I am determined to get my exercise bike out of the garage and into the house as well as starting to box on the slam man. I will definitely miss the companionship and accountability of having a workout partner but I will find another. My husband is always willing but at times I feel I cannot keep up. His fitness level is far above mine and I get disheartened when I feel I am so behind. ...

Family Matters!

Image
This weekend I had the pleasure to have our first family member visit us since we have moved. My aunt came into town for business but the odds of her being in Wichita Falls, TX. of all places was too much of a coincidence and I looked at it like a blessing especially since I have been missing family so much. We enjoyed the cat show and having her over for dinner one night. Then we made the drive to Dallas to the airport and that was a fun road trip. P.S. We finished the game on the way back Aunt Shar! Family is so important to me and I know that I can do much better with keeping in touch. Sometimes we have to take a step back from everyday life and nurture and maintain the family/friend relationships that we have. So those of you in my contact lists do not be surprised if you receive a call, text, email, or letter from me in the weeks to come. I love you all and you all are important to me. I cherish our relationships even if I do not speak to you all regularly because family matte...

Fitness Update/ Decreasing Red Meat

Image
Hello All:  I hope every one's week has been going well.  I am so pleased with this week so far. I have been eating very well and have been active everyday this week even the day I did not feel like it. My weigh in this morning was 307 exactly! That is 16 lbs. lost since start just under 8 weeks. So I am still on target for the 2lbs. a week loss.  One of the ways we have been trying to eat healthier is to decrease the amount of red meat we eat. Now if you know how much we ate before you would understand this is a big deal...lol. We had some form of red meat with almost every meal. It is cheaper. Ground beef is one of the cheapest meats you can find and when you are on a budget you get what you can afford which unfortunately is not too kind to a healthy lifestyle. Once we made the commitment to making eating healthy a priority we adjusted out grocery budget and focused on the healthier items instead of junk. My couponing helps a lot as well since what I save I can...

Updates

Hello All, I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed yourselves. We had a great weekend. Friday night we just relaxed at home but Saturday we went to go watch the final Harry Potter film. (I will not reveal spoilers). I will just say that I was happy with the way they ended the film series. They did a good job of capturing most of the book. After watching Harry Potter with the whole family.  Cheyanne and I had mommy/daughter day. We went to go see Judy Moody at the base theatre and after that we went shopping and got to rack up on the sales! Judy Moody was a cute movie. If your children are into the books they will enjoy this movie. I really enjoyed our day. I have been truly enjoying her company lately. Don't get me wrong I have always enjoyed my daughter but it seems lately that we connect on a different level. She is getting older and I am guessing that this is just a part of her maturing and us both understanding each other better since we can communicate better. She is ...

Importance of Sleep in Fitness

Image
Last night I could not sleep. When I say could not sleep I mean not even closing my eyes and nodding off. What I think happened was I had some coffee after 10 am which I had previously learned that if I drink fresh brewed coffee after certain times it keep me up longer and I worked out later than usual. I think the two combined really did me in last night. I just woke up from a 2 hour crash and burn nap and feel a bit better. I was to the point of delirium, tears, and getting cranky.  Sleep is a very important part of fitness. My doctor explained to me that people that do not get adequate sleep tend to be overweight and have more trouble losing weight.  Now every one's ideal adequate sleep is different but normally 7-9 hours is what is needed to refresh our bodies. Even the best fitness program and diet can be undone by inadequate sleep. Our bodies need sleep in order to repair muscle damage and for cell growth.  As I can attest to from this morning, lack of ...

Jogging/Couch to 5k

Image
About a year ago I started a program called Couch to 5k. It is an app that can be downloaded to an ipod. It gradually takes you from pretty much out of shape to being able to run/jog a 5k in a couple of months. The first time around I did the program for about 4 weeks.  On Saturday, I felt the urge to go for a jog...now I have not even attempted to jog since I stopped the Couch to 5k last year. I was pleasantly surprised...Day 1 is a 5 minute warm up and 1 minute of jogging with 90 sec. of walking in between for 25 minutes with a 5 minute cool down. Now I did not do all of the 60 sec. runs but  I did do more than I expected and I noticed that when I quit it was not because I was winded it was because my legs felt like they were going to fall off. I also noticed that the times I quit before the walk cue I was only 2-3sec. away from completing the whole 60 sec. in the first place. So if I can get over the hump of pain and keep pushing I should be able to get through the whole...

Reflection

Image
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ( this is my blog entry for Sunday June 10, 2011 ) Today, I had a reason to reflect on my priorities and actions or I should say lack of action. Is it enough to know but not use that knowledge? Is it enough to be willing but no do anything about it? How many times do we “intend” to do the right thing but never end up doing it? For one reason or another. It could be as big as saving a life or as small as picking up a piece of trash off of the street. It all adds up and in the end do you feel any better for not stepping out of your comfort zone? Usually it is the opposite. You end up feeling worse because you truly wish you had and regret not doing it. Why do we tend to do this to ourselves? It is one word. FEAR! Not boogie man fear mind you but fear of doing something we are not used to or fear of what may come after. This applies to all aspects of life and for all...

Surprise Saturday/ Importance of Water in fitness

Image
My husband and I love to surprise each other and the kids on occasion. Today we will be surprising the kids by taking them to the movies on base and probably out to lunch.   I also think we may grill some steaks tonight that we marinated and put in the freezer…Mmmm they should be sooo good.  Being on this fitness journey I have learned to really understand and embrace the do not deny yourself attitude….lol. In the years past I thought that I had to cut things out completely in order to see results, but that is not the case at all.  It is all about learning your body cues and really understanding what your body wants or needs and moderation. Also, honestly when you are serious about bettering your health and not just weight loss you tend to crave better foods...instead of the salt, sugary cravings you crave vitamins and nutrients in certain foods.  You may have heard this before or not but a lot of times when we think we are hungry it is actually thirsty. ...

Fun Friday!

Image
Fun Friday! Happy Friday Everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the short week and are going to have a great weekend.  Being a Christian for most of my life and attending a Christian School from elementary to graduation I have come across many opinions and thoughts (we are all unique). One that I continually come across is some Christians believe that it is wrong to enjoy their riches and wealth and to be content in their lives. I believe that God wants us to enjoy the things we have especially if we have worked hard for them and especially if we have earned them debt free. One verse that I love is: Ecclesiastes 5:19 (KJV) Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. So today I am going to enjoy the riches God has blessed me with. My kiddos and home :) While homeschooling we always had Fridays as our “fun” days or free day so we could participate...
