Reflection

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

(this is my blog entry for Sunday June 10, 2011)

Today, I had a reason to reflect on my priorities and actions or I should say lack of action. Is it enough to know but not use that knowledge? Is it enough to be willing but no do anything about it? How many times do we “intend” to do the right thing but never end up doing it? For one reason or another. It could be as big as saving a life or as small as picking up a piece of trash off of the street. It all adds up and in the end do you feel any better for not stepping out of your comfort zone? Usually it is the opposite. You end up feeling worse because you truly wish you had and regret not doing it.

Why do we tend to do this to ourselves? It is one word. FEAR! Not boogie man fear mind you but fear of doing something we are not used to or fear of what may come after. This applies to all aspects of life and for all people. Spiritual, mental, physical if we never take the initiative to step out of the box and expand our boundaries will we be able to look back at our lives and say “I tried many things and have no regrets. I may not have succeeded in all of them but I tried and that’s what matters.”

I want that to be me! I want to look at my life and say, “I did my best.”

Whether you are a parent, nurse, police officer, military, homemaker, student, customer service employee, CEO, or unemployed we should all be living our lives to the fullest and  expand our boundaries.

There is a prayer in the Bible called the Prayer of Jabez:

1 Chronicles 4:10 (KJV)

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep [me] from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Those that believe in the power of prayer….this is powerful. I have prayed this prayer before and my coasts were definitely enlarged. It definitely took me out of my comfort zone and I definitely had trials during but in the end I came out so much more blessed. I am feeling a pull back to this prayer and that may mean a few trials are coming my way but I will use the knowledge I have and actually apply…when I have the willingness I will do. We all stumble and fall but just like riding a horse/bike, you dust yourself of and get right back on.

<3 you all and have a blessed Sunday.

  1. Amen to that Sharon! I'm going through the same thing right now, of stepping out and trust God to see me through and know that God is going to be with me from beginning to end. I am totally feeling you on this I want to that person who looks back and feel proud on what they have accomplished in this life and feel that I did my best. I am working on doing this very thing and I know I'll be a better person for it.
