Jogging/Couch to 5k
About a year ago I started a program called Couch to 5k. It is an app that can be downloaded to an ipod. It gradually takes you from pretty much out of shape to being able to run/jog a 5k in a couple of months. The first time around I did the program for about 4 weeks.
On Saturday, I felt the urge to go for a jog...now I have not even attempted to jog since I stopped the Couch to 5k last year. I was pleasantly surprised...Day 1 is a 5 minute warm up and 1 minute of jogging with 90 sec. of walking in between for 25 minutes with a 5 minute cool down. Now I did not do all of the 60 sec. runs but I did do more than I expected and I noticed that when I quit it was not because I was winded it was because my legs felt like they were going to fall off. I also noticed that the times I quit before the walk cue I was only 2-3sec. away from completing the whole 60 sec. in the first place. So if I can get over the hump of pain and keep pushing I should be able to get through the whole thing.
I actually ended up doing longer than the 35 minutes in the workout because I was enjoying it so much out there that by the time the timer went off for the workout I had not even turned around to go home yet so I got about a total of an hour on and off jogging/walking.
The human body is surprisingly resilient...I mean our bodies are made to run and be active. We are made to enjoy the outdoors and move our bodies. I was frustrated and upset when I left the house for the jog and being along the trail and seeing the horses, animals, and greenery while out there with my music playing was honestly therapudic.
I am going to take it easy with the Couch to 5k because it is easy for me to burn myself out but I do plan on doing them on the days I do not walk with my friend.
I hope you all enjoy your Monday.
