Updates: Kendrick Family Updates

Hello All,
I hope you all are having a good start to your week. Things have been busy here. This week is a busy one.

The kids here are having there STAAR tests this week. So good luck to you all. I hope you do your best and have great results. Keonte was feeling confident about the tests this morning so hopefully he will do well.

Cheyanne has been doing great in school. She has improved her grades from last semester and I am so proud of her.

I have 2 more weeks of classes left this semester, so there is a lot of studying for finals. I will be glad when this semester ends. These 6 classes were doable but I am ready for a break. My plans for school for the summer are to CLEP a few classes and speed up my graduation time.

Speaking about graduations, I want to congratulate my husband, Kevin, he will be graduating this Friday with 2 degrees. I am so proud of you babe!

Quick updates on some of the projects here in the house:

The homemade deodorant was a success. I have been using it just shy of a month now and it has been great. There has been no staining that I have noticed on clothing so far. The smell of the coconut oil is just the right amount not too overpowering but enough to smell nice. I do not smell at all after a hard workout or long day. One thing that I would do differently though is start with smaller amounts and work my way up. I also would probably try to make the consistency more solid next time because I have to store it in the mini fridge to keep it from melting. Coconut oil has a melting point of about 76 degrees so anything over that and it will liquefy. The baking soda helps but if there is more oil than soda it will liquefy fairly easily.

Corn - 6" high
Garden - the garden is doing great. The corn is about 6 inches high now and the carrots, lettuce, peppers, broccoli are growing. What is thriving right now is the yellow summer squash. The plants are growing fast, healthy and minimal pest damage if any.

The sunflowers are finally growing their leaves back. However, the marigolds never took from seeds. They started to grow but then stopped. I think the caterpillars got to those too young and they died. I will be buying already started marigolds and transplanting them instead.
Squash and Bush Beans are thriving

Pumpkin
Potatoes
Watermelon finally sprouted

Pests - I have been using the Diatomaceous Earth for a week now and I can honestly say that combined with cutting the grass around the boxes has cut the caterpillar population significantly. I do have to reapply the Diatomaceous Earth every few days (after watering or rain) but it is worth it to protect the plants. Luckily, we have not had any rabbits in our yard yet this spring but I need to get a fence up before I jinx myself....lol.

I hope you have a great week and do something this week for someone that cannot do for you. I am putting that out as a challenge. It does not have to be monetary. Spend time with someone, help a neighbor with yard work, run an errand for someone, give the homeless person a bottle of water, stop by and say hi to someone who may be home bound. Anything that will bless someone else.

Love to you all,
Sharon
