It is ok to not be...

SUPERMOM! (or Dad)

Hello All,
I have not been able to blog like I have wanted to lately but I am trying to fit it in. These last 7 weeks have been a serious adjustment period and we are still having some growing pains, but that is life.

As you know, I started working out of the house recently and I am a night-shifter. That in itself is a huge adjustment and I am in school as well. Juggling house, kids, work, school, and the curve balls that life seems to be throwing at us left and right lately. I was very overwhelmed and starting to not feel like my optimistic self. I happened to start working a very busy part of the year for my employer and after broken sleep and taking care of the household, school was getting the short end of the stick.

If you know me, I am a perfectionist in certain areas and family, school, and work are the top 3 contenders. I have a very high GPA and ran into an issue of realizing I just could not do it. One of the classes I was taking I was just managing but not to my standards in order to keep my standing grades with the school. I could have pushed through and risked damaging my GPA and I was trying that, but after running 36 hours on 2 hours of sleep from working until 7am, running errands, spending time with kids, and doing homework until 1pm, waking up at 3pm to run more errands and get to work to only continue the pattern the next day definitely took its toll (on everyone).

Now, I am not saying this for pity or for anyone to say,"I don't know how she does it?" I am laying this out because I know there are others like me that feel they HAVE to do it ALL. I made the choice to withdraw from the 1 class that I was having the hardest time fit into my schedule (I am still taking another class), and immediately a weight was lifted off of me.

I am writing this to say, It is ok to not do it all. You do not have to go it alone. You need to take care of yourself in order to take care of those you love. Nurture yourself in order to nurture your children, spouses, friendships. What advice would you give to a child or friend you saw running themselves ragged? If you are like me you would grab that screaming baby, that extra chore they had, the vacuum or stressor and take it away from them so they could get a break, take a nap, enjoy just a moment of peace to refresh themselves.

Why not do that for yourself too? Accept the help offered, say "no" sometimes , reevaluate priorities every now and then. Some things you cannot change but some you can. You can adjust, learn, and view things differently to help.

So a challenge for this week, do something for yourself. Whether it is relaxing, changing something in your life that has been holding you back, or doing something you have been wanting to do but putting off; DO IT!

I want you all to know that I appreciate you all, those I have not been in touch with lately know I do think of you and am grateful to have you in my life.

Love to you all,
Sharon
