Recycle old jeans into...a gardening apron.

How many of us hate throwing away a holey pair of jeans? I know I do. It seems that with the money we spent on them they should last forever and I hate throwing them away. I saw a very cute idea on how to turn your old jeans into a gardening apron and since it is gardening season I thought this was an appropriate recycle use of them.

All you need to do this project is 5 minutes, your old jeans, and a pair of good scissors.

1. Once you have all of that lay our your jeans back side up and cut off the legs of the pants leaving the seat (butt) of the jeans intact.

2. Turn jeans over to front side and start cutting just under the waistband... cutting above the zipper but below the button...cut all the way to the side seam and repeat on the other side. When done you should have two "straps" that consist of the waistband with button and button hole.

3. Next, cut down along the side seam, essentially removing the rest of the front section of the jeans. Repeat on other side.

4. YOU ARE DONE! That is it. You now wear the apron with the seat of the jeans across your front and the buttons will be in the back. You simple put the straps around your waist and button the buttons. You now have a sturdy apron made out of jean material and the back pockets (which are now in the front) can hold your seeds, shears, pruners, or whatever else.

If you want to get cute and frilly with it and are handy with a sewing machine add some ribbon or trim to the bottom and side of the apron.

How simple was that!?! Another plus when it gets dirty I can just throw it in the wash like any other pair of jeans. In my homemade detergent of course ;) Check out the previous post for the recipe.

Happy Gardening!
