The Power of a Hug
Good morning All,
It has been almost six months since I have blogged for myself. Life once again has been crazy, but when is it not? I truly enjoy writing/blogging and have missed it tremendously. I will not be doing a personal update today.
Today, I wanted to talk about the power of a hug. I am not talking about how much muscle your arms have and how hard you can crush someone. I am talking about the power a Genuine, Heartfelt Hug has to change a person's day.
There are scientific studies about the benefits of hugs. Relieves tension, reduces stress, increases blood flow, helps self-esteem, and boosts the immune system. Wow, something as simple as a hug can do that? What about the non scientific benefits? A hug that is genuinely given freely can make a person that is having a bad day feel better, it can help someone that is hurting heal, it can let someone know that you are thinking about them and care about them, it is giving a part of yourself selflessly to someone else for the benefit of another. Do you remember as a child, how good a hug from a loved one made you feel? Hugs from the right person could make everything feel better after a bad day at school, a skinned knee, bullying, or just when you were sick.
There have been times especially recently where I have been stressed and hurt. Prayer, meditation, and reading are my usual go to's for situations like that but sometime a person just yearns for or needs that contact from a loving friend/person. Most that truly know me, know that I am a major hugger. I am always so happy to see people in general that I just have to hug them. Now a days, though, society sometimes looks at people that show genuineness and love towards others, especially strangers as awkward or peculiar, I do not recommend just grabbing a random stranger and entangling them in a bear hug...lol. But, the next time the opportunity presents itself how about giving someone a warm, heartfelt, I love you just because you are you hug.
A few of my favorite quotes on hugs:
"You can't wrap love in a box, but you can wrap a person in a hug."- unknown
"A hold-me hug in the ocean can make you feel all safe...until the dry-me hug, later, takes the shivers away." - Steve Wiesinger
"Hugging closes the door to hate."- Tony Davis
"A silent hug means a thousand words to an unhappy heart." - unknown
"A hug you feel the heartbeat. You feel this person is your brother, your sister as you grab them." - Caleb Shikles
It is that time for me to head off to work but here is a huge virtual ((((hug)))) for you until I can give you a real one. Be blessed and have an amazing day. Try it, today I want you to reach out and give someone a truly, well meaning, I just needed to give you one hug. It will not only make that person feel better but you too.
Love & Blessings,
Sharon
